I love this secret room behind the bookcase! Even though it’s clearly built for a child, I want to crawl in there myself and spend time doing puzzles and painting. A private space to call one’s own is sometimes all a child needs.

There is something to be said for the anticipation that comes from not knowing what lies above in this secret room. This gorgeous space leaves so much to the imagination. A simple ladder can take a child to a hidden world of possibility within the highest heights of the forest! This secret room would make Peter Pan very proud!

There were countless times as a child where I played house with my friends. We would imagine all kinds of scenarios, each one of us taking on a specific role in the household. While we constructed adequate homes out of cardboard and paint, having a great space like this quaint cottage would have made our role play so much more fun! I love the endearing balcony that looks out over the “house”.
